Will a rabbit cage be appropriate for a ferret?

I have always wanted a ferret, but they are so expensive. I recently ran into an opportunity to buy a ferret and it's supplies for 50 dollars and I was given a rabbit cage. I know the cage is big enough, but it doesn't have very much vertical height. Assuming I give the ferret enough time outside it's cage (I also have an enclosed outdoor "pasture" originally intended for a rabbit) would a rabbit cage be appropriate to keep a ferret for a year or so?
