How can i secure my internet connection?

my mom borrowed a Linksys router from a friend and it was secured. i went to use it and when i typed in the password some how it got unsecured and the network name changed too. so can someone tell me how to get it back like it was with the same name and password. i got 1 week to make it look like nothing happend before my mom comes back so PLZ HELP!!!
